THE SUNFLOWER HOUSE

ICEA & UltraTech Cement Limited Award | Commendation | Outstanding Concrete Structure of Surat | 2016

The Sunflower house is a home for a leading doctor couple, who are fond of socialising, greens , books, travel & king sized experiences. The site, part of a plush locality of Surat, has roads on East & South sides. Conceputally, the house looks like an irregular stack of boxes of different sizes and materials. This helps visually reducing the height of this four story house. The blank wall on the ground floor avoids noise and views from outside. Light is borrowed through carved skylights in the roof, as it washes all the public areas throughout the day. The offsets and residues at each level either offer sky-light or greenery making each corner bringing nature to the home. An interesting installation of Sun Flower in the entrance porch and the backside courtyard, lends the identity to the house.
