NIRAANT

IGBC | Green Individual Homes | Platinum Rating | 2021

This villa is designed for a joint family consisting of two brothers - both doctors, and their spouse, kids and mother. During the floods of 2006, the plot was submerged by about 9 feet, and hence the clear brief was to elevate the house and start from the first floor. Considering the large requirment of bedrooms and other public and private spaces, we assumed the challenge to create a house which does not look tall, and broken down by the stepping down landscape. This paint free house exhibits interesting material palette of form finished concrete in rough stone moulds, yellow jaiselmer stone, and green kotah stone, and local teak wood. The house is full of day light and ventilation, and held together by a covered central courtyard. The art, though traditional in spirit, has bold modern manifestation, the concrete mural in the courtyard ceiling, being the best example of the same.
