This is a unique example how an architectural design firm can make a significant contribution for the city. The struggle to give this 400 year old water reservoir tank back to the city of Surat began in 2005. The ten years of toil and perseverance culminated in 2015, when this lake, located in the heart of the old part of the city, was opened up for public in early part of 2015. This 6 Ha recreational hub has been very well received since, and is used during the day by diverse user groups. The periphery of the lake is developed with lot of recreational facilities and also conservation of a very rare kind of tri-directional ancient step well. This has become an important public place to celeberate events and festivals. The rejuvenation of the lake has created significant impact in raising the ground water levels in the surrounding area which has a very high population density. This project has been done in Collaboration with the firm Urban Initiatives in which the founding principles of EDSLLP are also founding partners.
